Take a look at what Web Developer David, has to say on the past two years working at Platform 81.
Tell us about a typical day in the web team?
Turning designs into reality and generally keeping up with what’s going on in the industry. Collaborating with the other guys is a big part of my day. Oh and a lot of snacks!
What has been the highlight of your time at Platform 81 so far?
Winning three awards at the Stockport business awards in 2 years.
What have been your 3 favourite web projects and why?
Stockport County – Growing up five minutes from their ground and being a huge football fan it was great to be part of making their new website.
The Bike Trader – A great concept with big ideas, it was a project I was really able to get my teeth stuck into while trying new technologies.
Thrive – We were given creative freedom with a brief of creating something different to all other websites. The final outcome came together and looks great.
If you had to list the ‘best-kept secrets’ to building a successful website, which would you include and why?
1- Simplicity is key. In my opinion if you’re complicating it you’re doing it wrong
2- Don’t reinvent the wheel
3- Don’t be afraid to try different things
What tips can you recommend to businesses looking to carry out user experience testing?
– Spend time understanding what your users are looking for
– The homepage is your time to shine.
– Speed is key
– Less is more
Looking out 3 to 5 years, beyond the obvious trends, what do you think will be the next big change in your industry?
If I knew the answer I would be a rich man.
